One of the most common responses I get when people ask me about using essential oils is, "how do I start using essential oils?" If you know me personally, then you know I have a TON of things on my plate.  For me, it was about educating myself on how to introduce more clean and natural products into my home, my family, and with my in-home yoga clients. I truly stand by the Young Living product and know you will love it too. Today's blog post is all about my favorite essential oil, Lavender!  Stop by Tranquil Space any day of the week and it's a lavender spa in there, so it's a natural first pick and favorite for many of my clients it feels like coming home.  Here are some tips on how to use! Essential oils can be applied topically, ingested (only Young Living brands), and diffused:



  1. Relaxation: The first thing I do when I get home is diffuse lavender. Great to make your home smell fresh + relaxing. If you have a little one at home also helps calm any hyperactivity!
  2. CrossFit Hand Tears Anyone?: 1-2 drops of lavender can help with the stinging pain of burns and help disinfect cuts or tears from those days when we have 100 Pull Ups or Muscle Ups.
  1. Winter is cOMing..Dry Lips: Mix 1 drop of lavender and 1/2-1 tsp of coconut oil for dry or chapped lips.
  2. Eyelashes: Add 1 drop to new mascara tube to support lash growth.
  3. Dry Scalp: Massage several drops of lavender on your scalp to ease dry scalp and eliminate dandruff.
  4. Bug Repellent: Summer months are MISERABLE in DC for someone that grew up in sunny CA! Use lavender as a natural bug repellent or spray in the edges of your house to keep bugs away. Great for little hands and paws that like to explore and drop things than harsh bug repellents from the store.
  5. Upset Stomach: Apply 1-2 drops on the wrists or behind the ears for a queasy tummy.
  6. Sleep Aid: Diffuse lavender at bedtime or add a couple drops to your pillow. Sweet dreams. My son gets lavender diffused in his bedroom...um EVERY night!
  7. Allergy Relief: Diffuse lavender to help with symptoms of allergies. Hello, Cherry Blossom season!!
  8. Headaches: Diffuse a few drops of lavender or apply to wrists or temples to help with a tension headache.
  9. Sunburns + Burns: Apply a few drops of lavender directly to a sunburn for relief. Burn yourself while cooking? Save the cool water and directly apply lavender to help heal.
  10. Sinus Infections: I occasionally suffer from Sinus Infections and applying Lavender across the bridge or your nose mixed with Lemon is a huge relief.
  11. Poison Ivy/Oak: Apply a couple drops of lavender to the affected area for itch relief.
  12. Teeth Grinding: TMJ? I said goodbye to gum chewing long ago due to TMJ.  If you grind your teeth while you sleep, diffusing lavender during the night can help.
  13. Moth repellant: Add a couple drops of lavender to cotton balls and place in closets to keep moths and insects away!
